Director Ayush
Initially, the Department of Health & Family Welfare was responsible for the management of all institutions of Ayurveda in the State, along with the Allopathic system of medicine. Recognizing the popularity and effectiveness of the Indian Systems of Medicine, the Government of Himachal Pradesh established a separate Department of Ayurveda on 7th November 1984, as per the Rules of Business, by bifurcating it from the Department of Health & Family Welfare.
Over the years, this Department has expanded its scope and activities significantly. It now functions as the Department of AYUSH, in alignment with the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, focusing on the development and promotion of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Sowa rigpa, and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) systems in the State.
The Department plays a vital role in providing quality health care services through a network of AYUSH institutions, including Ayurvedic Health Centres, Homoeopathic Health Centers, Unani Health Centers, and Ayurvedic Hospitals across Himachal Pradesh. It also emphasizes preventive and promotive health care through yoga and wellness initiatives.
